A medical procedure whereby a device separates a person’s whole blood into plasma and cellular components. The plasma is discarded and replaced with donor colloid fluids which are then combined with the person’s blood cells before being returned back to them. It is used to treat several autoimmune conditions.

A therapy that removes abnormal red blood cells and replaces them with healthy donor red blood cells. It can be used to treat red cell disorders such as sickle cell anemia.

When stimulated bone marrow releases stem cells into the peripheral blood, an apheresis device can be used to separate them from the rest of the blood and collect them. Stem cell donors may be autologous, related, or unrelated. Commonly offered for the treatment of myeloma and lymphoma.

A form of apheresis, where the buffy coat is separated from whole blood in order to be treated with medication and UV light before returning it back to the patient. This procedure is often performed on individuals with graft vs. host disease or cutaneous T-cell lymphoma.

Leukapheresis involves the removal of white blood cells while simultaneously returning all other blood cells and plasma back into the bloodstream. It is a therapy for treating chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) or individuals with very high white blood cell counts.
