What is apheresis?

Apheresis is used to treat blood disorders. It involves using a device to separate whole blood into plasma and cellular components. It can be programmed to isolate any layer of blood for removal & replacement or collection. Procedures performed include plasmapheresis, red blood cell exchange, stem cell collection, photopheresis, and leukapheresis.
